Like the new blossoms of spring, African elephant Flora and the 12 additional residents at The Elephant Sanctuary are moving into 2026 with budding opportunities for exploration and growth. Because of your support in 2025, The Sanctuary increased the elephants’ explorable habitat by 137 acres and started construction on a 5,000 square foot addition to the Redbud Barn that will provide additional opportunities for indoor socialization and veterinary treatment.
These new advances in elephant care, coupled with the scientific knowledge that elephants thrive on social connection, allow us to know that all Sanctuary residents, including Flora, Tange, Sukari, Artie, Osh, Mikki, Edie, Nosey, Billie, Debbie, Ronnie, Punch, and Sissy are provided the opportunity for companionship, the autonomy of choice, and the space to move and explore the world around them.
Your continued support ensures that the momentum we experienced in 2025 during our 30th Anniversary continues in 2026 and beyond, creating more opportunities to provide sanctuary for additional elephants.

With your help, in 2026, we plan to:
- Be prepared to welcome elephants to Sanctuary, ensuring we are always ready when there is a need.
- Expand educational opportunities through the build-out of a new Learning Lab and planned upgrades at The Elephant Discovery Center, creating deeper, hands-on learning experiences for visiting students, families, and educators.
- Complete the Redbud Expansion Project; this $3.7 million project unlocks new indoor and outdoor spaces for elephants to thrive.
- Strengthen relationships within the herds, including supporting new connections amongst elephants like Mikki, Edie, and Nosey or Osh and Artie - an important milestone in planning lifetime elephant care.
